Kelli Murray Larson, founder of children’s clothing brand Rylee & Cru, has a distinct visual point of view that extends to her weekend home in La Quinta, California. She says, “I grew up vacationing in Palm Springs, so the desert has always felt nostalgic to me.”
La Quinta’s dramatic mountains and desert surroundings inspired the design of her home. Kelli worked with Indio White Studio to create a sanctuary for her family and friends, where they could escape the busyness of everyday life and slow down.
Design and Inspiration
Kelli wanted the house to feel connected to its setting, so she incorporated natural materials, textures, and a quiet color palette. The architecture is modern, but softened with arches and organic elements to create a warm and inviting feel.
Furniture played a key role in achieving this feeling, with Kelli gravitating toward pieces with warmth, texture, and character. She says, “That’s one of the reasons working with Häti Home felt like such a natural fit. Their pieces have this beautiful balance of sculptural design and organic warmth.”
Interior Design
The home‘s interior features a mix of vintage pieces, natural materials, and handcrafted furniture, including Häti Home pieces. Kelli aimed for a layered and collected look, rather than outfitting the rooms all at once. She notes, “Mixing vintage pieces, natural materials, and handcrafted furniture like Häti Home gives the house a sense of personality and makes it feel more personal over time.”
Häti Home’s pieces are incorporated throughout the home, complementing the architecture without competing with it. Kelli says, “There’s something about Häti furniture that feels both sculptural and approachable—the pieces have a strong presence, but they still feel like they belong in a home that is meant to be lived in.”
Completion and Reward
The build took about three years to complete, and Kelli found it incredibly rewarding to see everything come together. She says, “After spending so much time thinking through every detail on paper, there was something surreal about finally walking through the finished home and seeing it all as one complete space.”
Kelli loves seeing the house being used as intended, as a place for her family to slow down, spend time together, and disconnect from their normal routines. She notes, “That was always the goal, so seeing that come to life has probably been the most rewarding part.”
